So if you have been to the past meetings you know that I have been playing Bravely Default, one of the longest and overly hyped game for the 3DS. If you go to Game FAQs and check the critic review you will notice that most of the reviews are favorable, but if you want to know how well a reviewer is see how they review this game. If they do not rip this game a new one, then they were either paid to give the game a good review or they never played the game all the way through and thought that the first major boss is a good enough indicator to determine the quality of the game and thus do a half ass job. Now I implore you to not play this game, just take my word for it right here and now that it is terrible and let it be. If you want to debate me on this go ahead and respond to this post. Now just in case you guys are masochist and want to play this game then stop reading and go suffer or pleasure, or is it both?
So the game starts out like a normal RPG, bosses make you feel like they are a bit of a challenge, but is nothing you can't handle. This is only true up until you beat the first major boss after this you must grind your ass off to beat the second major boss. Grinding becomes a major chore until chapter five of six, but this is a minor problem compared to the rest of the game. The developers put a major focus on repairing the village that Tiz is from. To do this you must use avatars from people you street pass who are playing the game to get workers to help rebuild the village. Can't find people who have the game, well you can link up to the servers once a day to get workers. No Internet, no problem, it is just going to take you hours to rebuild one area, with the maximum time it takes being 99 hours. Well you are probably thinking I don't need to rebuild the village, well you are thinking wrong. Each area gives you different things like special attacks, components that boost the special moves, not to mention the strongest gear in the game. So you could see this as handicap, a challenge, this to is a minor problem. One more minor problem and I will get to the major problems. The voice acting for the main characters is just terrible. Bryce Papenbrook (I don't care enough to look up how to spell his last name) is Tiz, the closest thing to a main player character you can get. Enough said on that. Now for the major problems and this has to do with the story this is a final warning for spoilers. Now just so you know the story is usually the last thing done for a video game. That is no excuse for these two major problems. The smallest of these three major problems. The story treats the player like an idiot. Your goal is to go around the in game world and awaken four elemental crystals, up to three times! The way they have you do this is by first do some kind of task to get to the crystal, then you fight a boss and move on to the next crystal. A cliche but not the reason why the developer thinks your an idiot. After you awaken the four crystals you must go back to all of the crystals and reawaken them. Now you can either jump to the end of the game by breaking a crystal, but if you do this you lose character growth through story development and you lose access to a job that helps you grind. Now we get to the next problem which falls back to having to reawaken the crystals all over again. The bosses you fight to reawaken the crystals are exactly the same. Same stats (except for the first major boss who gets stronger just to match your level), same monster, same attacks, same models. This is just lazy, Now let me explain further why this is lazy. After you reawaken the crystals you go into a pillar of light fight Alternis and go to a parallel universe with the exact same map, exact same optional bosses, the only real changes other than minor story bits is that the enemies get a little stronger and offer just a little boosts in rewards compared to the enemies of the other world. This is just completely lazy not to mention that by world three, nothing changes other that story elements. The last problem has to do with the true ending. After you beat the game Airy talks about how she failed to release a being called Oborose or something like that and that is it. As it turns out their is a further better ending where you fight Airy again and then Oborose. To get to the better ending you have to either know where to go or stumble on to it by chance. You have to enter your airship and activate a party chat then enter the shop area of your airship to get the better ending. This is completely stupid! You either find it on accident, you leave the game thinking there will be a sequel, you do the optional dungeon hoping to fight this Oborose, or you find out about the better ending by stumbling on to it through the Internet.
I implore anyone to try to defend this terrible piece of trash game. And yes I left out somethings just to see if anyone either picks up on it to add to the reason why this game sucks or to try to defend this game so I can rip it back down.
